Community Gardens: Vandals and setbacks

You know you have to be doing something right when opposition slams you in the face...again.

We have had issues with job clubs providing new workers, by holding spots they had no clients for. We have had Centrelink approved workers who were supposed to turn up but didn't. We had an enthusiastic, younger male sign up who was the perfect assistant for hubby...but he only lasted 2 garden days. Granted, he got paid work, but it's a blow for the gardens.

And, as hubby discovered Tuesday last week (not this week- we were rained out!!!), vandals had upped the rage notch considerably.

Take a look...

Hubby took these photo's, so some may be blurry. However, it clearly shows some of the damage. From top left; tyres ripped out and stacked together; a termite nest 4 metres off the ground actually has a brick in it; tyres ripped out; more tyres ripped out.
Around half of the tyres were uprooted. That's 40-50 people. Gotta hand it to whoever did this- you are dedicated. Or very, very angry.

What isn't shown; the fence sections the neighbour's gave us taken from their stacked position and strewn through the bush, and bricks raided.

Seriously, enough!

Thankfully, hubby and Dustin were onto it quickly, and made sure tyres were buried much deeper this time.

The marks on the ground clearly show where these were when hubby arrived.

The tyres are buried much, much deeper. Not a complete deterrent, but you've got to be utterly dedicated to get them out this time.

Look closely, and you'll see the retrieved fence is now...a fence, surrounding the bricks and rocks and bits collected and stored ready for use. Again, not a complete deterrent, but one we hope allows the items to remain safe until we need them.

This is as much as needs to be said on vandals and setbacks. I'll be following this post shortly with all the positive things going on. However, I've said it before and will say it again, this all serves to make us way more determined. I love a challenge, and this is like boot camp :)

Talk soon, lovely readers!
